A deer (Cervus elaphus) is the biggest and the most remarkable representative of the native fauna. It inhabits larger wood complexes. It is quite impossible to imagine areas around the river Danube without a deer. Bucks have wieght of up to 300kg, and what makes this specie different from others and what makes it noble are the horns of a buck. A buck rejects its horns in February and March every year and within five months it gets new ones, bigger and more beautiful than the former ones.Buck's horn development reaches culmination at the age of ten.Shapely, big and beautiful horns are the picture of good health and fitness ability of game. The trophy worth 248.55 CIC points of a deer killed in hunting place "Kozara", had dominated at the International Hunting Exhibitions for over 25 years.

A deer comes to pasture at down and sunset. Most of the day it spends ruminating in peace. At the end of August mating or roaring begins.During this period (usually in September), elder bucks, at chosen places called roaring places, gather roes with which they are going to mate.Roaring places are also scenes of fierce clashes among bucks in order to get roes.Rarely, these clashes end mortally, but they take breath away of an observer.

A roe pregnancy lasts 220-230 days and it brings forth one, rarely two calves.
A deer is game of herd, and they all have a roe which is the leader.Only older bucks live sperately. This is the specie that we give special importance and according to that it has a healthy and stabile population.
