About us

The tradition of forest farming in these areas has been existing for over three hundred years.Between the two world wars, new history was developing through the Forest Department in Apatin,Novi Sad,and in Sombor. The post-war period had been full with transformations until the significant movement in term of organization happened in 1976,when the forests of the Danube area joined Hunting-fishing farm "Jelen"Beograd.

In 1991,public firm "Srbijasume" was formed, with the head office in Belgrade and according to this lumber camp "Sombor" Sombor became a part of the same.

Camp is territorially divided into 5 units. It consists of the Department, which is in Sombor and four administartions:"Kozara" Backi Monostor,"Apatin" Apatin,"Odzaci" Odzaci and "Subotica" Subotica. All plans which consider production are on the level of the Department, while their realisation is through administrations. The manager of the lumber camp is Božana Ðordjevic, graduate engineer. The area of land which is divided into ten farming units is 23365ha.

As the biggest parts of this area are the Danube and Tisa's aluvuim and terraces, the commonest trees are white willow (Salix alba),white poplar (Populus alba) and black poplar (Populus nigra),as well as the clones of Euroamerican poplars (Populus euroamericana). On the higher parts of the ground, still can be found stand of English oak (Quercus robur). Also,on drier parts of the ground, false acacia (Robinia pseudoacacia) can be found, while you can find black and white pine trees (Pinus sp.) in the area of sandy terrain near Subotica.

Beside wood production and products of wood, the great impact on our managing has hunting.Grounds are rich in game with which we have been professionally dealing for a long period of time. Here can be found some of the well-known hunting grounds of deer (Cervus elaphus).

Likewise,we mange the parts of the Danube waters, where at least 50 species of freshwater fish can be found.

According to this, conclusion can be made that all these areas belong to systems that have multiple significance both in economic and ecological sense and at the same time the managing of these represents pleasure as well as responsibility.
